Canada’s immigration department, IRCC, has released updated data comparing current application processing times to those recorded in July 2024. The figures reveal a mixed picture—some application categories have seen improvements, while others continue to experience delays.
For economic immigration programs such as Express Entry, average processing times have either stabilized or slightly improved. The Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Worker Program have shown modest reductions in wait times. However, processing for family sponsorship streams, particularly spousal and parent/grandparent applications, remains longer than the government’s service standard.
Temporary resident visas, including visitor visas and study permits, show varied timelines depending on country of origin. Study permits for international students continue to face delays in some regions, especially during peak intake months.
Permanent residency applications via Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) have generally held steady or improved slightly, reflecting efforts to clear backlogs. Meanwhile, IRCC’s online application tools and portal improvements have contributed to faster turnaround for some digital applications.
Overall, while IRCC continues to work toward meeting its service standards, applicants should remain aware of program-specific timelines and stay up to date on changes that may impact their application process.
