Alberta has invited 1,189 candidates through six immigration draws held in November 2024 under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program’s Expression of Interest system. These draws targeted various streams and pathways to address labor shortages across key sectors in the province.
The largest draw took place on November 27, issuing 447 invitations under the Alberta Opportunity Stream.
This draw focused on Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) holders with Alberta education, requiring a minimum score of 71, six months of work experience, and a job offer in Alberta.
By targeting PGWP holders, Alberta aims to retain international graduates who have already integrated into the province’s economy.
On November 22, Alberta conducted a healthcare-focused draw under the Alberta Opportunity Stream, issuing 80 invitations to candidates in healthcare roles.
With a minimum score of 40, this draw emphasized the province’s need for healthcare professionals, excluding those eligible under the Dedicated Healthcare Pathways.
Another healthcare-focused draw took place on November 21 under the Alberta Express Entry Stream, inviting 96 candidates with profiles scoring 300 or more in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
This initiative highlights Alberta’s alignment with federal immigration strategies to address critical gaps in its healthcare sector.
The tourism and hospitality sector was addressed on November 15, with 412 invitations issued to candidates holding LMIA-based work permits in eligible roles. This draw, requiring a minimum score of 66, aims to support Alberta’s tourism economy.
On November 14, Alberta targeted construction workers under the Alberta Express Entry Stream, inviting 150 candidates with CRS scores above 300. The demand for skilled workers in construction remains a priority for the province.
A specialized draw on November 8 issued four invitations under a law enforcement pathway, focusing on professionals affiliated with AACP employers.
These draws underscore Alberta’s strategic efforts to address labor shortages in vital sectors. With 9,276 nominations issued out of a 2024 allocation of 9,750, Alberta continues to leverage federal Express Entry and its streams to support its labor market and economic growth.
