Canada issued 1,085 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in its latest Express Entry draw under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
The draw on December 16 required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 727 points. This score was 22 points higher than the previous PNP draw on December 2, which saw 676 invitations issued.
The most recent draw follows a French Language Proficiency draw on December 3, which issued 800 ITAs with a minimum CRS score of 466.
In 2024, Canada has conducted a mix of targeted and general Express Entry draws. These include nine all-program draws and several targeted draws for specific occupations and categories. Healthcare, STEM, transport, and agriculture jobs have been among the priorities.
This year alone, 14 PNP-specific draws and 10 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draws have also been conducted.
By comparison, in 2023, Canada conducted 19 all-program draws and five PNP-specific draws. Last year, French-speaking candidates, healthcare professionals, skilled trades workers, and transport job applicants were also targeted through specific rounds of invitations.
Canada issued 110,266 ITAs in 2023, significantly increasing from 45,115 issued in 2022. The record year for invitations remains 2021, when 114,431 ITAs were issued, primarily to Canadian Experience Class and PNP candidates.
Canada’s ambitious immigration targets continue to grow. For 2023, the target was set at 465,000 new permanent residents. In 2024, the goal will rise to 485,000.
The latest PNP draw used the tie-breaking rule set for September 18, 2024. Candidates who met the minimum CRS score and submitted profiles before this date received invitations.
Successful candidates now have 60 days to submit their applications. Immigration authorities aim to process applications within the standard six-month timeframe.
Employers are encouraged to secure Labor Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) or support candidates through provincial nomination programs to retain long-term employees. A valid job offer remains one of the most reliable pathways to receiving an invitation in future draws.
