Prince Edward Island has issued invitations to 22 skilled worker candidates in its first provincial draw of 2025.
The January 24 draw targeted candidates through the Labor Impact and Express Entry streams of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). The invitations focused on applicants currently working or holding confirmed job offers in the healthcare sector.
The PEI Express Entry stream is linked to the federal Express Entry system. Candidates who receive a provincial nomination gain 600 points toward their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. This nomination often guarantees an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence.
The stream offers two options for candidates: one for those with job offers and the other for individuals without employment offers.
The Labor Impact category includes two pathways: the Skilled Worker Stream and the Critical Worker Stream.
The Skilled Worker Stream allows applicants to gain permanent residence if they meet certain criteria. These include having full-time employment offers from a Prince Edward Island business. Applicants must possess post-secondary education, sufficient work experience, language proficiency, and settlement funds.
The Critical Worker Stream aims to fill specific labor shortages in the province. It is open to foreign workers already employed in occupations such as truck drivers, customer service representatives, and food and beverage servers.
Candidates need a full-time job offer, six months of work experience with a PEI employer, and basic language proficiency.
The Business Impact category is also part of the PEI PNP. Under the Work Permit Stream, applicants must first secure a Canadian work permit and fulfill a Performance Agreement with a PEI business. They must invest at least $150,000 and manage the business daily from within the province.
Direct permanent residence business streams were previously available. However, they were closed in 2018 due to concerns over immigration fraud.
Further draws are expected as Prince Edward Island continues to attract skilled talent and business investments.
