Canada has issued 1,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates with French language proficiency in its latest Express Entry draw. Held on September 13, 2024, the draw required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 446 points. This score is 52 points higher than the previous French language draw on August 15, when 2,000 ITAs were issued.
The previous Express Entry draw, held on September 9, targeted Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates. That draw issued 911 ITAs with a minimum CRS score of 732 points.
In 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued a record 114,431 ITAs, surpassing the previous high of 107,350 in 2020. Canada’s immigration targets have continued to grow, with 465,000 permanent residency invites planned for 2023 and 485,000 expected for 2024.
The tie-breaking rule in the latest draw was based on submissions received on August 28, 2024. Candidates with the minimum CRS score who submitted their profiles before this date and time were prioritized.
This draw marks the 36th round of invitations under the Express Entry system in 2024 and the 314th overall. Successful candidates now have 60 days to submit their applications, which IRCC typically processes within six months.
To improve their chances of securing an ITA in future draws, candidates are encouraged to seek an approved employment offer or apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or provincial nomination under PNPs, which can provide additional points.
